Choghadiya

Today's Choghadiya: Auspicious Time Today

Choghadiya splits the day and the night into eight periods each. Four are good for starting work (Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Char) and three are avoided (Udveg, Kaal, Rog). It is widely used in Gujarat and Rajasthan for travel, business and quick muhurats.

How Choghadiya is calculated

Sunrise to sunset is divided into eight equal day Choghadiyas, and sunset to the next sunrise into eight night Choghadiyas. The first day Choghadiya belongs to the weekday's planet and the rest follow a fixed order. Each period is roughly 90 minutes, longer in summer days and shorter in winter days.

Choghadiya is a quick tool. For major events such as marriage or griha pravesh, a full muhurat that also checks tithi, nakshatra and your own chart is better.
