Today's Vaar

Vaar is the weekday, one of the five limbs of the panchang. Each vaar is ruled by a planet, and that planet colours which activities are favoured. In the panchang the vaar runs from sunrise to the next sunrise.

How the vaar is used

A good muhurat usually needs a supportive vaar as well as a good tithi and nakshatra. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are generally considered gentle days for auspicious beginnings; Tuesday and Saturday are preferred for work that needs strength or endurance.

Many people also fast on the vaar of a chosen deity, such as Monday for Shiva, Tuesday for Hanuman or Saturday for Shani.

In the panchang the vaar changes at sunrise, not at midnight.
Wednesday and Thursday are popular choices, but a full muhurat also checks tithi, nakshatra and your chart.
Tuesday is ruled by Mars, which favours action and courage more than gentle ceremonies like marriage.
